FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 16, 2013

OVERNIGHT WORK AT THE QUEENSTON PLAZA FINISHES EARLY

LEWISTON, NY/QUEENSTON, ON – The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC) is pleased to announce that all night-time construction work at the Queenston Plaza is now complete and traffic operations have returned to normal.

The construction work had resulted in the closure of some Customs Primary Inspection Lanes and reduced hours of operation of the Nexus lane at the Queenston Plaza, and it had originally been anticipated that these reduced traffic operations would be enforced until the end of August.  The NFBC appreciates the patience and understanding that was displayed by all motorists, passengers, and commercial carriers during the construction.

Bridge Commission & Niagara Parks Plan Special
NFBC 75th Anniversary Fireworks Display over Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls, ON / Niagara Falls, NY – In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC) and the 50th anniversary of the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge span, a special extended 12-minute fireworks display will take place over Niagara Falls on Friday, August 23 at 10 p.m. (EST).

“The Bridge Commission is honored to be partnering with our friends at The Niagara Parks Commission in order to offer an enhanced fireworks show in commemoration of our 75th Anniversary and the 50th Anniversary of the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge,” said NFBC Chairperson Thomas G. Pryce. “Audiences on both sides of the border will be able to view and experience this exciting event, which will take place over the Horseshoe Falls.”

“It is our pleasure to be working with The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission to help celebrate these two milestone anniversaries,” stated Janice Thomson, Chair of The Niagara Parks Commission (NPC). “We look forward to offering a spectacular fireworks show that evening for our residents and visitors, and I want to thank our local tourism partners who continue to work with us and help sponsor the Falls Fireworks series, every Friday, Sunday and holiday throughout the summer months.”

In addition to the spectacular fireworks display, the NFBC has also launched an anniversary website at www.niagarafallsbridges75.com, and is also selling anniversary t-shirts with proceeds supporting select regional food banks. A new 75th Anniversary video montage is currently in production and will be issued later this year, and an educational outreach initiative to local school districts regarding the history of the NFBC spans will commence this fall. Commemorative poster art, logos, interesting facts, and other anniversary features can also be access online.

About the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission
A Joint Resolution of the 1938 U.S. Congressional Third Session created the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission. The Extra Provincial Corporations Act of the Province of Ontario, Canada licenses the NFBC. Canada and the U.S. are equally represented on the NFBC by an eight-member Board of Commissioners. Initially established to finance, construct and operate the Rainbow Bridge, the Commission proved sufficiently efficient and effective to assume responsibilities for the Whirlpool Rapids (Lower) and Lewiston-Queenston Bridges. The NFBC builds and maintains all facilities for Customs and Immigration functions on both sides of the international border. The NFBC is self-supportive, largely through user fees (tolls) and private-sector tenant leases. NFBC is federally chartered to conduct international commercial financial transactions and issue federal (U.S.) tax-exempt bonds.

About The Niagara Parks Commission
